“I was spanked and I turned out fine”

It was warm out, so we went to a playground today.
A group of kids sat on a balance beam near the bench I was sitting on.
“Ugh, I hate you”. A boy, probably around the age of 10 smacks a little girl. She looks like she’s 5 or 6 years old. Unfazed, she keeps playing.

An older girl in the group, she looks like she’s in early high school, shouts at him. “Don’t hit her! We get hit enough at home”.
A few minutes later, the little girl playing on a balance beam bumps the older girl with her shoes.

“Dummy!”, she smacks her, “I wish you had fallen off this, I hate you”.

The little girl just keeps playing.

The phrase, “I was spanked and I turned out fine” echoes in my mind.
